Eagle Rock Update - 7/9/10 (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Kaibab National Forest resource management specialists have prepared a plan to repair and restore areas affected by the Eagle Rock Fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams. Due to areas of high burn severity on the 3,420 acre fire, measures are underway to reroute storm runoff and reduce the potential for flooding and mudslides as the monsoons approach. Some restoration work has already been done, such as repairing fire lines and felling trees on steep slopes within the fire perimeter. In the coming days, roads will be graded, trails will be repaired, stock tanks and culverts will be cleaned, and ditches will be dug. Over the long-term, the fire area will be seeded to help prevent erosion, hazard signs will be posted, and patrols will be established after significant storm events. There will be a public meeting at the Maine Consolidated School in Parks on Monday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m. Forest officials will be present to update the community on the rehabilitation efforts....

Area Closure Revised (Eagle Rock Wildfire) An area closure remains in effect on the Eagle Rock Fire. However, managers have revised the closure to encompass a smaller area. The northern boundary of the closure is Forest Road 97, east to Forest Road 141, south to the junction of Forest Road 76, and continuing south to Forest Road 104. Then, an obvious fire dozer line will be closed to the junction of Forest Road 522 continuing north to the junction of Forest Road 97. This area is closed to the public until further notice.

The fire is 11 miles northeast of Williams and remains at 3,420 acres and 90 percent contained. Today's operations will concentrate on mopping up hot spots and patrolling the perimeter. Smoldering logs and stumps will continue to produce light smoke. While the area around the fire remains closed for entry to the public due to hazards such as smoldering stump holes, weakened trees, and rolling rocks and logs, other areas of the forest are not affected by the Eagle Rock Fire.Forest visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions this time of year. Eagle Rock Fire Update June 24, 2010 (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Fire crews continue to work on the Eagle Rock Fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams. The 3,420-acre fire is 90 percent contained. Smoke may be visible at times as logs and stumps within the perimeter continue to smolder. Thursday's operations will concentrate on mop-up and patrolling for hot spots. This includes reinforcing existing containment lines and extinguishing any lingering embers. The area around the fire is still closed for entry to the public. The public should be aware of possible hazards in the area. Hazards including falling trees, burning or smoldering stump holes, rolling rocks and boulders, unstable slopes and hill sides. Crews made excellent progress mopping up hot spots in the fire area and widening containment lines on all fronts. The Eagle Rock Fire remains at 3,420 acres and is now 80% contained. Total containment is expected on approximately June 25, 2010. The Northern Arizona Incident Management Team will be turning over fire operations to a type-3 fire organization for the Kaibab National Forest. The team would like to thank the community for their continued support throughout the fire suppression efforts. Wednesday's plan will concentrate on mop up. Coconino, Kaibab, and Prescott National Forests Implement Fire Restriction (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Officials with the Coconino, Kaibab, and Prescott National Forests will implement fire restrictions on Wednesday, June 23 across the three forests. Due to high fire danger, these restrictions are deemed necessary to protect public health and safety and prevent human-caused wildfires. The restrictions will prohibit fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves outside of developed campgrounds and limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters meeting safety specifications will continue to be allowed. In addition, campfires are not allowed at the designated dispersed camp sites within the Prescott Basin on the Prescott National Forest. Metal posts identify designated dispersed sites with a number. Eagle Rock Fire Update, June 21, 2010 (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, AZ - Sunday was a challenging day with the high winds and another new fire in Flagstaff. The Schultz fire required resources be dispatched from the Eagle Rock fire immediately. Over 170 crew members responded including nine engines, two hot shot crews, three type two crews and a fuel crew. The Schultz fire grew to over 3,000 acres in less than five hours. Total containment is now projected later this next week due to the large amount of resources that were moved to the Hardy Fire and Schultz Fire. Eagle Rock Fire Update, June 20, 2010 (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, AZ - Saturday proved to be a very productive day for firefighters on the Eagle Rock Fire. The fire remains at 3,420 acres and is now 50% contained. The remaining evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes this morning. Spring Valley Road (County Rd 141) was also reopened this morning. The Emergency Fire Closure around the immediate fire perimeter remains in effect. Northern Arizona Type Two Incident Management Team Commander John Philbin is happy to report there have been no injuries to firefighters. Firefighters made more progress on extinguishing hotspots and improving fire line during the evening hours. Structure protection is still in place for many residences in areas of Spring Valley. Firefighters Continue Working to Suppress Eagle Rock Fire (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Firefighters are continuing work to suppress the 1,000-acre Eagle Rock Fire on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. The wildfire, which is located 11 miles northeast of Williams and on the northeast side of Sitgreaves Mountain, has forced the evacuation of about 60 residences in the Spring Valley area and has burned two outbuildings. Eagle Rock Fire Now at 1,000 Acres (Eagle Rock Wildfire) WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Fire crews continue work on the 1,000 acre Eagle Rock fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams and east of Sitgreaves Mountain. The Eagle Rock Fire was detected by the Kendrick Mountain lookout this morning. Residences in the Spring Valley area have been evacuated. The cause is unknown. The high winds and low relative humidity are making fire suppression activities difficult. There are approximately 250 fire personnel assigned to the incident. Some progress has been made early this evening on the spot fires on the east side of County Road 141. Resources continue to arrive and the Northern Arizona Type-2 Incident Management Team will be managing the fire suppression activities.
